Customs and Trade Lead

We are seeking a Customs and Trade Lead for our operations in China. This role is critical to ensuring the seamless flow of goods across borders, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, and optimizing trade efficiency. The successful candidate will be part of AZ’s new global Customs & Trade organisation and will collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders alongside driving strategies that align with AstraZeneca's business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Customs Compliance Management: 

  • Ensure adherence to China's customs laws, regulations, and procedures.

  • Monitor changes in trade regulations and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Manage classification, valuation, and clearance of goods (clinical, R&D and commercial).

Trade Operations and Strategy: 

  • Develop and implement trade strategies to support AstraZeneca’s business goals.
  • Optimize supply chain processes for import and export activities.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for trade efficiency.

Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • Collaborate with internal departments, including legal, supply chain, and finance, to ensure integrated trade solutions.
  • Liaise with government agencies and external partners for smooth trade operations.
  • Provide training and support to internal teams regarding customs and trade processes.

Risk Management and Continuous Improvement: 

  • Identify potential risks in customs and trade operations and create mitigation strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance trade compliance and efficiency.
  • Produce regular reports and analysis to senior management on trade activities and performance.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant professional qualifications in International Trade, Business, Logistics, or related field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs and trade [Big 4 advisory firm/multinational]  with a focus on the pharmaceutical industry preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Chinese customs laws and international trade regulations.
  • Proven track record in leading successful customs and trade initiatives in a complex, global environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English is required.
