R&D Director of Procurement
R&D China is a fast moving, innovative and growing organisation within AZ R&D with activities across the full R&D value chain from Discovery to early and late development. Astrazeneca is investing at pace in China innovation via Ambition 2030 with China being a key pillar of the longer-term strategy for the company.
The R&D Procurement director for China is to provide strategic Procurement support, line management of a team and challenge, guidance & Procurement leadership to the R&D China leadership team.
The role:
The role is based in Shanghai, China. You will join the R&D Global Procurement team reporting into the VP, Global Head of R&D Procurement who is also based in Cambridge, UK.
This position offers an individual the exceptional opportunity for direct exposure to senior business and finance leaders across the R&D Business.
You will perform a unique role, setting strategic direction for R&D Procurement in China and ensuring alignment with the overall Global strategy for R&D and defining any local R&D China requirements and these are understood and addressed in the Global strategy. You are accountable for translating strategy into goals and action, demonstrating a deep understanding of the relationship between the Global business and Procurement strategy.
Close collaboration with Global Procurement peer group and global category team is essential for this role to be successful.
What you'll do:
- Develop a global aligned strategic approach to the corporate procurement and material management process for the procurement of R&D direct/indirect goods and services.
- Contribute to the R&D Procurement planning cycle and support in setting performance targets, aligned to strategy and operational plans.
- Embed excellence in category management across the category, region or market including sourcing, cost management, contract management, supplier relationship and development management, and commodity price risk management (CPRM).
- Develop and deliver the annual financial and non-financial targets for the portfolio regionally or globally, including cost savings.
- Own the full results of all the portfolio contract negotiations, achieving the given KPIs, quality and targets, and proactively identify opportunities
- Develop long term strategic plans for the entire spend area within the portfolio (including overarching accountability for sub-category and national plans within any given category).
- Lead, line manage, coach, mentor and develop a team of Procurement professionals
- Develop and communicate a procurement portfolio strategy; establish, communicate and implement long-term goals for the portfolio in order to promote effectiveness and efficiency.
- Lead governance within the portfolio ensuring commercial decisions are aligned with the overall business strategy and up/downstream stakeholders
- Developing and leading SRM for China locally owned suppliers
Essential skills & experience:
- Degree or Masters Degree level qualification or relevant experience
- Significant R&D procurement experience
- Global Line Management experience
- Project management experience
- Experience of people management
- Leading multi-disciplinary teams
- Ability to communicate and negotiate with senior management team
- Proven ability to manage change
- Significant cross-industry and cross-category experience

- Understanding of multiple aspects of procurement process
